I decided to get out and work Cowboy on some birds a little this morning. Dave, one of my buddy’s had been wanting a bird dog forever. He came along to see some training and get an idea for what his future might hold. I also gave another buddy, Darren a call since he lives nearby. He has a nice setter pup he is starting to put in front of birds.

It got hotter earlier than I would have liked. There was no wind at all, so the conditions weren’t very good as Cowboy’s first bird indicates.

He looks nice in this photo, but where’s the bird? He ran right over it. I can’t fault him because there just wasn’t even the slightest breeze. He held pretty good for the flush.

He handled this next bird pretty well. I took a video of it. Sorry for the poor quality.

And now meet Patches. Darren picked up this dog for his 14 year old son. This is the boy’s first bird dog. A fine one at that. Patches is an 8 month old female Setter. She was bred by Robb Leishman, who runs some very good trial dogs here in Utah.

Tons of style! We kept her on a check chord, but she held this beautiful point for quite a while. Patches should be a heck of a bird dog.

The birds made the 15 mile trip home before I did. It sure is nice training with Homing Pigeons. Now we can do it all again another day.
